Anatomy of Japanese folk monsters – Via Pink Tentacle

These are pretty cool. Great illustrations of the strange anatomy of Japanese folk monsters. They’re cool because A) You learn about fun Japanese fold monsters (I don’t know much about them, other than I’ve heard there are quite a few of them) and B) they’re brought to life by the great illustrations by Shigeru Mizuki.

Take this guy for instance, this is The Makura-gaeshi (“pillow-mover”), a soul-stealing prankster known for moving pillows around while people sleep. Learn more about this guy and some more over at pink tentacle (yeah, it’s explained in English, I don’t speak Japanese).

This sounds like just a taste of a very cool book. I might have to hunt this thing down…
