Becoming Consistent
I was listening to this guy’s presentation while doing stuff earlier today:
Feel free to watch it if you want, a good half hour at the end is Q&A that I turned off.
It’s a good presentation spoken to, and geared toward design and visually creative students. I may have been out of school for years now, but I still feel like I’ve got a lot to learn (and don’t think that’s going to go away anytime soon) so it was a good’n for me.
He’s got quite a few good touch points, but the one I’ve been hearing more and more in my life is consistency, and continually churning things out. I’ve always been a bit confused about myself in that I really do like systems and routines, yet have never really been able to stick to a consistent system of creative creation. I mean look at this blog, it’s had some busy times, and I’ve gone on a few spurts of pushing some specific direction, but overall, inconsistent.
So, I don’t know if I can make something cool everyday, but I do want to make myself commit. I want to give myself enough freedom to do, but not so much that I don’t.
Anyway, what does that mean? Well, even if it’s not a lot of people who know about it, I want to put things up here on waxball, crap or not. What that will exactly be, we’ll see, it will probably be a mess at first, something I drew, a picture I took, a random rant on the coolest jquery UI that I integrated into a dynamic wordpress widget, yeah, all kinds of stuff. And whether that’s everyday or a different schedule check back in to find out.
Bonus: here’s another cool daily creative blog I’ve been following lately, I like his style and like that he’s not afraid to create what he creates, some of it’s not amazing, but you get his voice throughout.
Ohh, and this counts as doing something today, just sayin’.
